A huge and persistent low south of Iceland is driving the wind here. Strong easterlies as the winds rotate counterclockwise around the low. A lot of cloud, low ceiling, limited visibility, winds 25 to 45 knots during the day, large NE swells, and a rough chop. Not a lot of fun. This low thoroughly disperses the ice off the Greenland coast, opening it up. But the ice is dispersed, not disappeared, and I do not fancy working through scattered ice in these winds. Time is short. Greenland is out. We'll enjoy the Westfjords where we are now, and carry on south to Ireland, hopefully arriving by 2 or 3 September.
We are at an abandoned herring factory, with one of the buildings converted to a cosy restaurant and hotel. The location is Djupavik, in a fjord on the easy side of the Westfjords.
