Faeroes and Scotland
Some more pics from the Faeroes
Leaving Sorvagur, Vagar Island, at 4 am. Mykines in the distance
Tindholmur Island at center
The crossing to Sandoy Island, 25 NM SE, was quite violent, with strong turbulence from the fierce Faeroes currents. Wriley was seasick.
Sandur Harbour, on Sandoy Island
The church at Sandur. Archaeologists determined that this is the 6th church to be built on this exact spot over the last 1100 years, since the Norse came to the Faeroes. The previous churches varied slightly in size & shape, all being a bit smaller.
Locked out (???). Thru the window.
Looking to the south
Behind the church, a short walk to the beach.
A local.
Big country.
We sailed to Scotland, 200 NM, 48 hours. Now at Kinlochbervie, a small fishing village just south of Cape Wrath, in the Minch.
The weather forecasts continue to show a succession of lows sweeping west Ireland & west Scotland. As has been going on all summer long - a dreary year for these regions - and a persistent pattern that must be expected to remain persistent. Windows of good weather are needed to carry on. Will work my way south, and hope for an opportunity to cross to Tory Island off Donegal. Current forecasts are promising, but yesterday they were not. Have a backup plan in place - bring Teddy to a marina at Oban, Scotland, to haul her out for the winter. But I think we'll be OK.
Frank is to leave us in a few days. Wriley staying on until up to the 7th September. Both have lives - the most interesting lives and opportunities - to go on to. My temporary rig has less power and I'm still not used to it. With the old rig I do miracles; with this one, not. I am keen to put in distance while I still have the crew.

Nik, Great writing on the places visited and the challenges overcome. If it was easy, anybody could do it. Hopefully you can exploit the short gaps in this persistent Winter with unrelenting winds to get home.
